Our Story

Little Lions started in the living room of a Joondalup house.

Now, we are fortunate to occupy two commercial buildings and offer Telehealth services, to help hundreds of families every month.

Here is some of Our Story thus far…

2019 —

It started as a dream for sisters Kerry Keehan and Suzie Pickering — affectionately known as ‘The Speechie Sisters’.

They, along with Kerry’s husband Nathan, identified a growing need for services to diagnose and treat communication disorders in children, including difficulties with speaking, listening, understanding language, reading, writing, social skills, stuttering, and using voice.

After months of talking, dreaming, and strategising – including consensus around the concept of ‘Little Lions’ and a collective passion for “empowering kids and equipping parents” – the front living room of Nathan & Kerry’s Joondalup home was converted into a therapy space, and sessions commenced.

2021 —

In April 2021, following COVID setbacks and amidst ongoing uncertainty, the founders took a leap of faith – venturing from a home practice to the Joondalup Business Park.

The Clinic was established at Unit 1, 86 Winton Road, Joondalup and later expanded to include Unit 2.

This is testament to the vision, resilience, and combined strengths of our Founders — Kerry, her husband Nathan, and Suzie.

2023 —

Fast-forward to now, and the business has overcome challenges of the COVID-era and emerged stronger, with a team of 11 outstanding therapists, two industrial warehouses that have been transformed into professional clinical spaces, and six fully functional therapy rooms.

The clinic welcomes hundreds of families each month, and offers group therapy and school screenings to provide parents with guidance and reassurance as early as possible.

In addition to this, the demand on speech pathology, along with other allied health services is enabling the business to expand Telehealth capability, to help more children and families – from wherever they are.

Official Launch —

In February 2023, Little Lions Speech Pathology was officially opened at the Joondalup Business Park by the Honourable Dr Anne Aly MP, Federal Minister for Early Childhood Education, and the Honourable Albert Jacob, Mayor of the City of Joondalup.

The launch was a coming together of like-minded professionals, community leaders, and supporters, to celebrate a business that is looking beyond the bottom line.

Looking Ahead —

The demand for speech pathology, along with other allied health services is enabling Little Lions to expand Telehealth capability, and ultimately help more families – from wherever they are.

Little Lions intends to be part of the solution, with plans to further expand the Joondalup clinic, access to Telehealth services for families across Western Australia, and the provision of specific services for children with special needs.

While business growth is to be celebrated, Little Lions is focused on growth for good – looking beyond the bottom line, for the good of families everywhere.
