Expanded Medicare Rebates for Speech Pathology (M10 Pathway)
Effective 1 March 2026
From 1 March 2026, changes to the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) mean expanded access to rebated speech pathology services for children and young people under 25 years.
Key Updates
1. Expanded Access
M10 referral pathway now includes:
· Stuttering
· Speech sound disorders
· Cleft lip and/or palate
Eligible patients can now access Medicare-rebated speech pathology – up to 8 assessment sessions and up to 20 treatment sessions.
2. GP Referral required
Patients require a GP referral under the M10 pathway to access these services, supporting coordinated care between GPs and speech pathologists.
3. Improved access to Early Intervention
These changes reduce funding barriers and help more children access early support for communication difficulties that may impact learning, confidence, and participation.
