Speech Pathology Screening Assessment

Monday, 28 October & Tuesday, 29 October

Through screening assessments, our Speech Therapists will aim to identify any difficulties in children across the following areas:

  • Speech: This refers to the way a child pronounces sounds in words (e.g. instead of saying ‘cat’ they say ‘tat’).

  • Expressive language: This refers to the words a child is using and the way they are combining them to form sentences and discourse. Language is important for them to be able to tell stories and express needs.

  • Receptive language: This relates to how well a child understands things such as their ability to follow instructions, answer questions and solve problems.

  • Early literacy skills: The ability to identify and manipulate sounds in words. Phonological awareness is crucial for the development of literacy skills.

For each child that is screened by Little Lions, a summary report letter will be provided to the family. The letter will clarify whether their child is performing age appropriately or below average for their age. Based on a child’s performance, speech pathology intervention may be recommended, and Little Lions can then arrange an appointment for the family.

Consultations are available for parents who wish to discuss their child’s results.
